Real Media, Oh ****.

I was about to view an informative on-line video from the Yale Initiative for the Study of Anti-Semitism.

They have some very good stuff there too, but I groaned when I saw the .RM extension and remembered that they used Real Media as their preferred medium. What a pain.

Which is even worse if you use Linux as the available players lack the bells and whistles of the Windows versions, or at least they did when last I tried.

To the rescue Wine.

A quick bit of hunting around for 10.5 basic Real Player which seems to work better with Wine and before you could say “proprietary media” I was viewing YIISA’s fine videos.

They even has a YouTube channel, which probably would be easier, but I’ve install Real Player under Wine (second thoughts, their YouTube channel is very limited) and it works well enough with Linux. Job done. Thank you Wine.
