Free Muntadar al-Zaidi.
I think that the throwing of shoes at politicians should almost be compulsory, a damn sight better than bombs or bullets.
I laugh when I saw the video of Muntadar al-Zaidi throwing his shoes at George W Bush, and frankly I don’t blame him.
George W Bush will probably go down in history as THE worst American President, and given the state that Dubya has left Iraq in, it is the very least that the Iraqis could do, throwing a shoe or two at him.
I say “Free Muntadar al-Zaidi.”
Update from Oily’s Onions: Bush finds WMD stash in Iraq
You’re kidding. It was an assault.
I say 2 years’ probation.

ahh go away with you,
not one of the shoes hit Bush!
under the circumstances, as the journalist blames Bush for ruining his country and the death of some of his family, as I understand it, that protest was fairly moderate to what it could have been.
I wish shoe throwing was used more as a method of protest, it is largely harmless, compared to suicide bombers and was very funny.

If someone through a shoe at Barack Obama, you’d be sputtering with outrage.

on the contrary, I’d think it is funny.
but then again, Obama hasn’t completely fucked up a country like Iraq, and if he did, I’d expect people to throw shoes at him. I wouldn’t complain about it.
Bush made a conscious choice to invade Iraq and as a result will be judged accordingly, by the world and by Iraqis.

Such an act goes against the accepted norms for treating a guest, that too a foreign president.
However, given how the decisions made by this “guest” have wreaked havoc on millions of people, it was a desperate and justified act of protest.
I just hope he is released soon without suffering further beatings and torture.

sajjad,
Maybe so, but feelings run high when some Iraqis believe that Bush is responsible for much of the mess in Iraq and the murder of their own families
I can understand that sentiment.
it wasn’t a big issue, Bush wasn’t hurt, his pride might have been, that’s all
Still I hope they release Muntadar al-Zaidi, and he gets his shoes back, they should be donated to a museum.
