“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” Abraham Lincoln

I probably should have covered this issue earlier on, but to be honest it passed me by.

Yesterday, in Birmingham a bunch of thugs, cleverly named Casuals United, along with some hanger-ons from the English Defense League and their friends in the Welsh Defense League decided to make a provocative march, with no particular aim in mind other than to stir up hatred and cause conflict.

Richard Bartholomew has written extensively on the subject and the characters involved. He has a keen mind and the posts are most informative.

Lancaster UAF has more.

  1. Good on Richard for picking up on this ahead of time. Also – what Khalid Mahmood said.

  2. I had not heard of this lot until Saturday I had a look at the Casuals United/British Defence League site yesterday.

It struck me that they couldn’t make their minds up whether to be “reasonable” or a bunch of frothing bigots. I think they settle more on the latter than the former.

On one hand they say “We are not against Muslem (sic) people per se”

on the other hand: “We have no chance of removing islam with rodents like this in power” the “rodent” being Alan Johnson

My other half picked up on the name and wondered who on earth calls themselves Casuals these days it being such an 80s term!

Seriously they are definitely worth keeping an eye on. Richard Bartholomew’s posts are excellent. Thanks fior the link

  3. RB writes good stuff, far better researched than my feeble efforts.
