EU Funding The BNP.

with 7 comments

Again the absurdity of treating the neo-fascists in the BNP as a legitimate and normal political party is brought into focus, with the EU funding of various BNP hangers-on, as Lancaster Unity relates:

“Nick Griffin, the BNP leader, has put his personal bodyguard on the European Union payroll as his party becomes the latest to exploit the political expenses system.

A dozen senior figures from the party make up a BNP entourage of publicly funded assistants. As MEPs, Griffin and Andrew Brons are entitled to claim a combined £382,000 a year to pay for their colleagues’ salaries.

Martin Reynolds, a 20-stone bodybuilder who is head of security and Griffin’s bodyguard, said he “honestly didn’t know” why he was justified in being paid by the taxpayer. He said of his job: “I just do the security side of it and personal assistant stuff and generally looking after him and making sure things are done for him”

  1. If the man was elected to the Euro Parliament, surely he’s entitled to partake in the corruption and featherbedding available to other members.

It does rather give the away the lie, strongly pushed by the BNP, indeed their main attempt at differentuation, that they aren’t ‘Politics as usual’ but honest hardy men of toil and downtoearthness

  5. Well, SR, I am not at all surprised that a Fascist party is astonishingly hypocritical.

That ‘outside of westminster/strasbourg/the compound of the eldars’ bumpf is one of the BNP and other fascist parties main selling points and their own self-perseption. Even before the post 1945 cordon sanitaire, being outside of the decadent liberal world of parlimentary proceedure and favours was a pillar of fascist ideology and propaganda. Codreanu wanted ‘real men of action’ not prgrams and largesse. His hiers were mainly discredited by the intense series of ‘jobs for the yobs’ during the National Legionaire state. It was the jokes about Nazi corruption that formed the only widespread dissent during the Third Reich, pitiful, yes, but the anitdote to the faux outlander heroism so spouted after the end of the Reich.

The inevitable hypocrisy is and has been one of the deepest cuts anti-facists can inflict of the fascist facade

  7. Much as we may dislike it, they are entitled to it because they represent a constituency. People voted for them and elected them.

What is wrong about it in my opinion is the fact that a party wich promotes policies such as the ones this BNP promotes should not be legal, because it violates basic core values that are at the foundation of our social system (and political sub-system).
