Hamas and Holocaust Denial.

Engage highlights Hamas’s Holocaust denial:

“Hamas said it believed UNRWA was about to start using a text for 13-year-olds that included a chapter on the Holocaust.

In an open letter to local UNRWA chief John Ging, the movement’s Popular Committees for Refugees said: “We refuse to let our children study a lie invented by the Zionists.”

UNRWA spokesman Adnan Abu Hasna said: “There is no mention of the Holocaust in the current syllabus.” Asked if UNRWA planned to change that, he declined to comment.”

I wonder what Western sympathisers of Hamas will say to that?

My bet is that they’ll probably cough and change the subject rather quickly.

  1. It’ll be “yes but…”

Yes, they should teach the Holocaust…

but they are fed up with the way the Zionists use it…
but they are fed up with the way the Zionists spin it…
but they are fed with the way that other genocides are ignored…
but they are fed up with the way the Holocaust is used as a blank cheque…
but they are fed up with the way that the same people who make such a fuss about Holocaust denial are themselves Nakba deniers….

    blah blah blah

  2. Just a note to the anti-Semite (above), learn the definition of “Zionist.” A Zionist is someone (regardless of religious affiliation) who supports the existence of Israel. Not all Jews are Zionists. Not all Zionists are Jews. Get it? But what really makes your comment irrelevant is the fact that Israel (“a nation filled with Zionists”) did not exist during the Holocaust. It has no relationship to the Holocaust. If you wish to disparage the nation of Israel, then start a blog and dump on Israel all that you desire. But, your comment here is moot.

Now, back to the topic at hand… Captured German war records prove that millions of innocent Jews (and tens of thousands of others) were systematically exterminated by Nazi Germany – mostly in gas chambers. These facts have been proven repeatedly through countless thesis and dissertation research papers. Virtually every PhD in the world will stake their career on these known Holocaust FACTS. Despite this knowledge, Holocaust deniers ply their mendacious poison everywhere, especially with young people on the Internet. The deniers have only one agenda – to distort the truth in a way that promotes antagonism against the object of their hatred (Jews), or to deny the culpability of their ancestors and heroes.

In denying the Holocaust, Hamas has deliberately turned its back upon verified history. Moreover, they know it! Let’s face it; everyone knows that millions of Jews were systematically exterminated by Nazi Germany. The goal of Hamas is to spread their lies to their progeny, who will also ignore vetted history. In other words, they hate Jews so much that they will deliberately lie to their children about it. And, none of this has anything to do with Israel, which did not exist then. If Hamas wants to bitch and moan about Israel, that’s OK with me. But, they don’t need to lie to the world about it (and the entire world knows they are lying). Rather than helping their case against Israel, it damages their reputation with the rest of the world.

Museums and mandatory public education are appropriate tools to dispel bigotry, especially racial and ethnic hatred. Books and films can also establish the veracity of genocides, such as recent Holocaust films. They help to tell the true story of the perpetrators of genocide; and they reveal the abject terror, humiliation and degradation resulting from such blind loathing and prejudice. We must disclose the cruelty and horror of genocide to combat the deniers’ virulent and inaccurate historical revision. By doing this, we protect vulnerable future generations from making the same mistakes.

Whenever we stand up to those who deny or minimize genocide we send a critical message to the world. As we continue to live in an age of genocide and ethnic cleansing, we must repel the broken ethics of our ancestors, or risk a dreadful repeat of past transgressions. A world that continues to allow genocide requires ethical remediation. We must show the world that religious, racial, ethnic and gender persecution is wrong; and that tolerance is our progeny’s only hope. Only through such efforts can we reveal the true horror of genocide and promote the triumphant spirit of humankind.

  3. Charles, in all fairness Dr. Hirsh was being sarcastic, he was pointing out how *others* would try and explain it away…

I would recommend his paper, Anti-Zionism and Antisemitism: Cosmopolitan Reflections [a PDF]
