“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” Abraham Lincoln

Israel Shamir, Assange And Srebrenica.

Marko Attila Hoare has written a superb post on Anti-Semitism, racism and Srebrenica genocide denial, here’s an extract:

“Srebrenica denial and anti-Semitism frequently go hand in hand. The anti-Semite, Holocaust denier and associate of Julian Assange who goes by the name of ‘Israel Shamir’ is a Srebrenica denier and has written ‘Many war atrocity stories are just stories – from Srebrenica to Kosovo “killing fields”, from Saddam Hussein’s WMD to Belgian babies on German bayonets of the WWI, from Kuwait’s incubator to anti-communist inventions of the Black Book.’ Shamir was one of a group of Srebrenica deniers, including Edward S. Herman and Diana Johnstone, who wrote an open letter to the Serbian parliament calling on them not to recognise the Srebrenica massacre.

This is the original open letter, Appeal To President Boris Tadić And The Serbian Parliament: Do Not Gamble With Your Country’s Future! No To The Srebrenica Resolution.

The letter is debunked here.

  1. And yet Dr. Srdja Trifkovic was invited to speak at Yad Veshem.

  2. Sorry, your point is not clear.

Please could you put a fuller argument?

  3. To be clearer, I can’t see what is meant to be anti-Semitic about what Trifkovic said in the link provided in the original post. Yad Veshem obviously don’t regard him as an anti-Semite as they invited him to give a speech.

  4. Sorry, I am having problems seeing the issue here, Marko argues:

“[I had personally written to Professor Stephen J. Toope, President of UBC, urging him to prevent Trifkovic from giving his talk. While I respect the right of genocide deniers to engage in genocide denial, I draw the line at allowing inciters of hatred against ethnic or religious groups to speak at universities, as I consider this an infringement on the rights of staff and students at the universities in question to work and study free from the fear of persecution or harassment. However, it was the Canadian authorities, not the UBC, that ultimately prevented Trifkovic from speaking.]”

I believe the major point is that Trifkovic is a genocide denier, and many of his statements are very questionable, to say the least:

“Historically, Talmudic Judaism’s insistence on the Jews’ racial uniqueness — emphasized by the ritual and dietary laws of Talmudic Judaism and on its view of Christians as idolaters — has ensured that a Jew steeped in his own tradition could not view traditional European or American conservatism with sympathy. His tradition was a form of elaborate survival mechanism based on the zero-sum view of a world divided into “us” and “them.” The Gentile was “the Other” ab initio and for ever.

In addition, since the late 1800’s the Jews have had a disproportionate impact on a host of intellectual trends and political movements which have fundamentally altered the civilization of Europe and its overseas offspring in a manner deeply detrimental to the family, nation, culture, racial solidarity, social coherence, tradition, morality and faith. Spontaneously or deliberately, those ideas and movements — Marxism (including neoconservatism as the bastard child of Trotskyism), Freudianism, Frankfurt School cultural criticism, Boasian anthropology, etc. — have eroded “the West” to the point where its demographic and cultural survival is uncertain. The erosion is continuing, allegedly in the name of propositional principles and universal values, and it is pursued with escalating ferocity.’”

I’d say such views are basically antisemitic.

PS: Yad Veshem may not have known his views before inviting him, that is a possibility. Either way they were wrong to.

  5. also, while I’m here I may as well ask what has Julian Assange got to do with any of this? since hes only mentioned in passing in the original post, I can’t see the relivance of his name being in the tital.

  6. Julian Assange has worked closely with the racist, Israel Shamir, in the past, which is very worrying.

I have documented it etc in various posts, you might care to use the search facility and read them.

  7. That part of the Trifkovic piece is taken out of context, sure it looks a bit uncouth at first but I don’t see it as evidence of ant-semitism.

“Julian Assange has worked closely with the racist, Israel Shamir, in the past, which is very worrying.”

I dont care about these two people or what they get up to, seems to me its a price well worth paying to have an organisation as important as wikileaks.

  8. If you don’t see then you won’t see it.

Not much more to be said.

If you don’t mind Israel Shamir, the racist then there’s nothing to be said, again.

  9. “the Jews have had a disproportionate impact on a host of intellectual trends and political movements which have fundamentally altered the civilization of Europe and its overseas offspring in a manner deeply detrimental to the family, nation, culture, racial solidarity, social coherence, tradition, morality and faith.”

Certainly Jews have had an impressive and “disproportionate” impact on western society if you think of Marx, Freud, Trotsky, Einstein, and Herzl. Just as ancient Greek philosophy has had a “disproportionate” impact of western thinking and black people have had a “disproportionate” impact on western music given the small size of all these groups. Has all of this impact been positive? well no, but its not racist to point that out.

As for Shamir, how much is he really involved in wikileaks to make it that much of an issue? I had never even heard of his connextion to Assange.

in a manner deeply detrimental don’t you get it or do you?

As for Shamir, etc make an effort, please, use my SEARCH function and read a bit, you might be better informed that way..

  11. “in a manner deeply detrimental don’t you get it or do you?”

yes, its not uncommon to hear views expressed like that from the American right or even British right. Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Anne Coulter etc are always banging on about how Marxism or “cultral marxism” and Freudian believes have dammaged traditional values. You will find that most conservatives including Jewish one’s will think that Marxism has damaged the family, faith, nation, morality and culture.

  12. Asteri,

“the Jews have had a disproportionate impact…in a manner deeply detrimental

You can’t see any problem with that? And PLEASE stick to the topic, Trifkovic’s comments, focus….please

  13. No, I can’t see the problem. look at the important part

“on a host of intellectual trends and political movements which have fundamentally altered the civilization of Europe and its overseas offspring in a manner deeply detrimental”

Its only in our culture that has a hysterical obsession with anti-Semitism that is would seem anti-Semitic. He is quite clearly talking about Freudianism and Marxism and what he thinks Marxism has led to. It’s not a belief that I share but, it’s pretty mainstream amongst the right-wing. I mean who could disagree that Marxism, Freudianism and Zionism have changed the world in ways not entirely positive, the founders of all these beliefs just happened to be Jewish, I think that can be reasonably described as “disproportionate” since Jews are a minority.
